II. Research Tutorial

Go to SIRS ISSUES and click on Student Tools---take the iThink Tutorial. This tutorial will give you an overview of the research.

III. SEARCHING A TOPIC

A. Exploring the databases

Go to the library website (leyden212.org/library).
Select DATABASES from the menu bar.
Navigate to SIRS ISSUES Researcher.

B. Brainstorming and picking out a topic

a) Skim throughSIRS Issues Researcher's list of LEADING ISSUES for topic ideas.
(See Pro/Con - top ten or the alphabetical list of leading issues and finally the Visual Browser.
b) "TOPICS: CAUSE & EFFECT":Google Doc of questions/topics with keyword prompts.
c) What are you looking for in a topic? Look for topics that interest you and that provide you with an issue that helps you identify the cause and effects.

---- Read and identify the RESULTS, WHAT HAPPENED (EFFECTS)
d) Now consider your topic---can you narrow your topic? about narrowing your topic --- what is your position on the topic?
